In March of 1800 Silence Cobb came to Coventry with her father, Samuel, and her brothers. They were the very first white settlers in that town. Everywhere they looked there were only trees. There were no roads, no stores, and no neighbors for miles. In the dark woods they built one-room cabins of spruce logs, mud and moss and covered them with bark roofs. |
