Event Registration

When you sign up online for classes, you must proceed through to the payment section to secure your spot in the class. If you have not paid on PayPal, your spot will not be saved and it will be given to another paying customer. You do not need to have a Paypal account to securely pay for classes with the Paypal site with your credit or debit card. Please make sure to continue the registration through to the PayPal website. Many classes have a materials fee; this fee will have to be paid directly to the instructor.

If you are a member of the Museum, you can receive the member discount on many of these classes. Please call the Museum for this special member code at (802)754-2022.

Fermenting Vegetables and more with Connie MacFarlane NEW! July 7th, 9am-12pm This course will provide you with basic knowledge of vegetable fermentation.  From sauerkraut to spiced beets fermentation transforms the ordinary to probiotic rich deliciousness.  The participates will leave with basic instructions for fermentation, recipes, the basic equipment to start your own and a jar of Sauerkraut with a choice of added spices to take home and ferment yourself.  We will also taste test some of the recipes.  This is a great way to increase health and have a way to preserve summers bounty. $95.00 (Includes equipment and handouts)

Rug Braiding with Mary Ragno Tuesday, July 10th, 10am-2pm/Wednesday, July 11th, 10am-2pm/ Sunday, July 15th, 10am-2pm Students will create a small (2’x3’) oval braided rug, using washed, recycled wool fabrics that are stripped and ready-to-use.  Beginners and experienced braiders are welcome.  We will cover how to start a braided rug, choosing colors, weights of wool, proper lacing, and how to make your rug lay flat.  Students may choose wool strips from a large variety of colors – solids & plaids, available at our first class; or students may prefer to bring their own wool.   Limit 8 students.  $75 plus materials fee (payable at first class): Essential tools pack ($17) plus 5 yards of wool strips @ $15 per yard ($75).

Introduction to Blacksmithing with Courtney Mead & Lynn Lang July 28 & 29, 9:30-4:00 each day Participants will learn the basic blacksmithing techniques of cutting, drawing out, upsetting, punching and drifting, and forge welding. Starting with mild steel stock, the student will learn to forge both useful and decorative items; some basic tool making (using high-carbon steel) will also be taught. By the end of the class, the student will know how to start and maintain a coal fire in the forge, and be familiar with the tools and techniques of the blacksmith shop. Safety equipment required: long pants (no holes, no synthetic fibers), safety glasses.  No experience necessary. $180 per 2-day session, materials included in price.
