Full of Hope—
I write this full of hope for the future of the Old Stone House Museum & Historic Village. Last June, I stepped away from my role of Executive Director at the museum, taking a leave of absence in order to manage a family crisis. Krista Barry, whom I’d hired as Director of Development, seamlessly transitioned into Interim Director in my absence. She has been a wonderful fit for the position and the organization. I was thankful for her leadership while I was away, knowing the museum was in the best of hands.
This year, I have returned to work at the Old Stone House Museum & Historic Village in a new role, as Special Projects Manager. The role is perfect for my changed needs for flexible and reduced hours. I am grateful for the opportunity to come back in this new position while continuing to serve the community and organization I’ve grown to love over the past seven years. Krista will continue to lead the organization as our Executive Director. We will work closely together, just as we have, to ensure that the museum has what it needs to thrive this year and into the future.

A New Chapter Ahead—
|
It has been a whirlwind year at the Old Stone House Museum & Historic Village, and I am so happy to be a part of it. It has been my honor to serve the museum as Interim Director. Born and raised in Derby, I grew up just a few minutes down the road from the “Old Stone House,” and have recently returned to the Northeast Kingdom after over a decade of working in anthropology, art, and history museums across the country. |
This year, the Orleans County Historical Society celebrates a milestone that belongs to all of us—100 years of the Old Stone House Museum—a momentous testament to the community’s dedication to preserving the history of Orleans County!
Museums are many things, but one of the most compelling to me, is they are the physical homes of ‘The Historic Record.’ Like the Old Stone House Museum, they were largely built through donations and sustained by volunteers, often motivated by the desire to leave something for future generations to learn from. Museums are important because they survive through the turbulence, and withstand the test of time.
I am elated to be a part of the living generation that gets to celebrate the centennial of the Old Stone House Museum. Embracing our communal role as the current stewards of this history will ensure this museum withstands the test of time—thriving for generations to come—our stories adding a chapter to its epic biography, and the history of the Northeast Kingdom.
