We are celebrating our nation’s Independence Day with a complimentary viewing of our newest exhibit, In a Different Hue: Race & Representation, and an invitation to participate in a community art project. Join us Sunday, July 3, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There will be free H.P. Hood Ice Cream being scooped, field games for children, and samples of Jasper Hill Farm cheeses to enjoy (while supplies last).
We invite all our guests to create a self-portrait using Crayola’s new “Colors of the World” crayons. This special line of crayons was created in Crayola’s hopes to “increase representation and foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance.” We will use these crayons to enable each participant to find their unique skin tone. Each portrait will include the artist’s thoughts on what freedom means to them. Portraits will then be displayed together on a living canvas.
In a Different Hue, which opened June 19th, examines the themes of politics, narrative imagination and racial stereotypes in relation to Orleans County history. It also offers a broader context for understanding the complexities of shared memory and meaning making. The exhibit is intended to spark our community art project, which will kick off on July 3, 2022 as we celebrate our nation’s independence day.
