As is our annual tradition, all four floors of the historic Old Stone House will be open for visitors to enjoy! Our exhibits are numerous, and if you have never experienced the full museum, this is your day. Exhibits include a button palace, hair wreaths, historic toys, local artwork, viewpoints, and photographs of our past, unique civil war artifacts, as well as dedicated rooms for each Orleans County towns! You are sure to find something of interest during this once-a-year open house experience!
The Old Stone House will be open for the entire event from 11-3.
Museum supporters and Brownington residents, Eileen & Phil Baker, will be providing music on the main stage from 11 to 1.
As is tradition, we will have our heritage craftsman demonstrating skills such as blacksmithing, upholstering, canning, basket weaving, and even sheep shear paper cutting. Additionally, we will have many heritage craft vendors on site showcasing their wares and offering a shopping experience unique to Old Stone House Day.
A tradition dating back to the very first Old Stone House Days is a kettle of coffee roasting over the open fire—not to be missed this year with fire roasted corn.
Our children’s education department will have activities & fun planned for youth!! Our croquet field will be set up for guests to enjoy. Volunteer Extraordinaire, Peter, will be showcasing tools and gadgets from times gone by. Come take a guess as to what exactly each item is used for at our “What’s It?” Table.
At 2pm our annual pie auction starts, and the pies never disappoint! Entries include tried and true family recipes, beginner bakers, professional bakers, and unique pies you will be dying to try. And don’t miss our ‘Time & Talent’ Silent Auction!
Baked goods will be available from vendors and the Ladies Aid of Brownington Vermont will be offering a full lunch service. We will also be serving samples of cheese from the award winning Jasper Hill Farm, so come hungry and plan to enjoy a good time with old and new friends! Devine Dairy & Draft Horses will be onsite offering wagon rides up to Prospect Hill for a small additional charge of $5 per person.
