Become an Old Stone House Museum & Historic Village Volunteer
Volunteer Opportunities
Tour Guide Volunteer
Do you enjoy public speaking? Or maybe a natural ability to teach? Become a volunteer tour guide at the museum this summer! The people you meet by giving tours are some of the most interesting and you’ll find the museum more fascinating each time you lead a group through. Training and tour script provided.
Gift Shop Volunteer
If you like guest service, volunteer in our gift shop! We have an eclectic variety of items for sale in the shop and you get to meet all the great people who walk through our doors every day! This volunteer gig is low-key, relaxed, and fun. There is often free time in between guests to read, do some personal work, or help in our collections/archives!
Collections and Archives Volunteer
We have over 75,000 historical artifacts on site at the museum. Help our collections team manage 200+ years of history from Orleans County in this volunteering opportunity. If you’re interested in conservation, collections, archival or exhibit work, we’d be happy for your help
Education Volunteer
The summer is full of educational opportunities for children at the Old Stone House Museum & Historic Village. From our homeschool enrichment series to Time Travelers’ Day Camps; field trips to Kids Fridays, adventure awaits you as you help museum educators pass on essential knowledge to the next generation. If you’re interested in a career in education or child care, this is the place for you.
Buildings and Grounds Volunteer
Work with experienced grounds managers to maintain perennial and vegetable gardens, trails, and buildings. You will gain experience in historic preservation building methods, sustainable and community agriculture, animated infrastructure (like our educational trail) and more. Get your hands in the earth and your hearts in history with this volunteer opportunity! Meets Wednesdays at 9am during the open season.
Special Events Volunteer
Do you love a good celebration? If so, consider joining us as an event volunteer. Opportunities fall into two categories. The first is the breakdown/set up crew who help us set up chairs, tables, parking lot lines, tents, and other needed equipment. The second type of event volunteer is our day-of helpers. These volunteers interact directly with event attendees to assist with parking, admission/information, merchandise, concessions, or as museum docents. Volunteers get free admission. We appreciate help for as little as an hour or the whole event. The event with the greatest volunteer need is Old Stone House Day (8/11).
