Afterschool Programmers
15 hr per week. $18-$20 per hour plus mileage.
Do you like working with groups of kids? Are you interested in bringing museum programming into the schools? If so, we want to meet you! Looking for individuals to work immediately up to 15 hours a week to work in after school programs.

Seasonal – Part Time Museum Educator
Pay commensurate with experience ($18 – $20 per hour)
Up to 20 hrs per week beginning 5/17 to 8/11/2024. (Start date flexibility for the right person and opportunity to take one week off during summer season.)
Increase in hrs to 40 hrs weekly for 3 summer weeks – 7/10 to 8/2/2024

Summer:
- Mostly Wednesday to Fridays, with occasional weekend hours requested.
- Support Homeschool and Family Enrichment programs in May and summer Kid’s Friday drop-in program geared toward 3 to 12 yr olds in summer.
- Spring and Summer Field Trip support and leading workshops
- July 15th to August 2nd increases to 40 hrs per week, Monday to Friday, for Time Travelers Day Camp weeks, negotiable for the right person.
- Support for some of our large public events taking place on weekends such as Dabble Day, Independence Day event, Old Stone House Day, Alexander Twilight Day.
- Assist with the work of the Buildings and Grounds committee including physical work on our 60 acre campus and in the museum gardens
Duties:
- Collaborate with the part-time Education Assistant and Associate Director of On-Site Education in lesson planning and implementation of the weekly Kids’ Fridays drop-in program for families with 3-12 year old children. Graphically design program flier.
- Assist in lesson development for the Old Stone House museum’s Kids’ Fridays for both the 3-6 year old lesson as well as the 7-12 year old lesson. This will be done with the approval of the Associate Director of On-Site Education.
Education:
- Under the direction of the Buildings and Grounds Committee chair; assist in planning, planting and tending the Heritage Kitchen Garden and light maintenance on the 60 acre grounds.
- Create and integrate educational opportunities and lessons related to the museum grounds, as time allows.
- Group leader during Time Travelers’ Day Camp July 22 to August 2 (Monday to Friday, these weeks would be an hourly increase) .
- Involvement in museum wide Old Stone House Day children’s area planning.
- Setting up for and breaking down equipment (tents, museum education collections, etc…) necessary for programming.
Position Qualifications:
- Leadership abilities, including volunteer coordination, initiative, operating independently and in a team when necessary.
- The candidate should welcome teamwork, physical work, multi-task challenges, and research opportunities.
- Ability to take direction. The candidate should welcome suggestions and constructive dialogue from supervisors and museum staff.
- Experience working with the public, especially children. Good interpersonal skills along with an ability to meet the public in a welcoming and non-judgmental manner.
